Booking terms
Last updated 5 November 2026
These terms apply when you book a job with OddJob SW. OddJob SW is a trading name of Charlie McCann, a sole trader based in Paignton, Devon. Contact: hello@oddjobsw.co.uk or 07385 560134.
1. Price
- Work is charged at £15 per hour (launch price) for jobs before 1 April 2027, and £18 per hour for jobs on or after 1 April 2027. The rate is set by the date of the job, and is shown when you book. I'm not VAT registered, so there's no VAT to add.
- I provide general, unskilled help around the home. I don't carry out work that needs a qualified tradesperson.
- Every job has a minimum charge of one hour, paid when you book. After the first hour, time is charged to the nearest half hour.
- Anything I buy for the job, such as materials or products, is charged at cost and I'll give you the receipt. I'll always ask before buying anything.
2. Paying
- When you book online you pay for your first hour by card. This secures your slot.
- For jobs of 2 hours or more, the remaining hours are paid on the day when the job is finished, before I leave, either in cash or by card online through the Pay page on this website. I can't take card payments in person yet.
- Any price we agree on the day for the whole job replaces the hourly rate for that job.
3. Cancelling or moving a booking
- Cancel or move your booking free of charge with at least 24 hours' notice. If you cancel, your booking payment is refunded in full.
- With less than 24 hours' notice, or if I can't get access when I arrive at the booked time, the booking payment is kept to cover my time.
- If I have to cancel for any reason, you get a full refund or a new slot, whichever you prefer.
- I can refuse any job, either before the booked day or when I arrive. If I refuse a job, your booking payment is refunded in full.
- Because you're booking a service for a specific date, the 14-day cancellation period under consumer law doesn't apply once the job is done. If you cancel within 14 days of booking and the job hasn't happened yet, you'll always get the full refund set out above.
4. The job
- Please tell me about anything I need to know when you book, such as pets, parking, fragile items or how to get in.
- If a job looks like it will take longer than booked, I'll check with you before carrying on.
- I don't do work that needs a qualified specialist, such as gas, electrical installation or roofing, or work at heights that need more than a small step ladder. I'll tell you if a job falls into this.
- If I'm not happy that part of a job is safe, I can decline that part and carry on with the rest. You only pay for time worked, with the 1-hour minimum.
5. Insurance and damage
- I hold public liability insurance for handyman work and domestic cleaning.
- If something gets damaged, tell me as soon as you can and I'll put it right or make a claim.
6. Complaints
If you're not happy, tell me within 7 days and I'll come back and put it right at no extra cost where the problem was my fault. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
